Hello from Asheville

in My story,travel

I hope you’re having a great week, because I sure am!

I’m here at Asheville, N.C., right now and so far, it’s been a blast.

It’s a perfect mix of vacation time and rapid productivity. I’m loving it so much, though I do miss the city. I miss the convenience of having a grocery store and several coffee shops within walking distance of my apartment, and I miss the honks of angry, jammed cars and the bustle of brisk walkers in the streets.

That said, nothing beats this porch at the Olaskys’ home.
_DSC2505 The Olaskys—my editors and hosts— have this beautiful outdoor insulated porch at the back of their house that is surrounded by glass and wooden frames.
_DSC2504 I had my first dinner there, watching the sun slowly slide down and listening to the treadmill whirling as Dr. Olasky combines his afternoon workout with a good academic read.

Just look at how peaceful it is.
_DSC2502 You can actually hear the birds sing! You can actually smell the trees and the flowers! And you can actually see bears in the woods!

Asheville is visually, olfactorily and aurally gorgeous. It helps that summer is in full bloom, and flowers of all shapes and colors nod in all direction. It also helps that the Olaskys pretty much live in the mountains.
_DSC2537 There’s so much to share yet so little to say except that I’m having a wonderful time, and I feel incredibly grateful to my hosts for everything they’ve done for us.

More updates later. :-)

Hope you’re all having a superfreakingtastic weekend!

I like that second photo:)

Are you outside of town, or close to town?

We’re about two miles from Biltmore Village to the west, and about two miles from downtown to the east! :-)

We used to stop in Ashville on our way down to Hilton Head each year.

It actually looks like you are on vacation rather than an internship! Haha :)
Can’t wait for the updates!
