Internet is down.
AT&T canceled my account because I failed to pay a bill I never received.
Will take about a week before it is activated again because there is “no possible way” they can schedule 15 minutes to reconnect my service from their little AT&T van outside my apartment.
“No possible way?!”
“No possible way, ma’am.”
That’s the brilliant response after 5 hours of being put on hold and 6 transfers. Brilliant.
School starting. Several articles due that need to be written, researched, fact-checked and submitted.
Pissed.
And screwed.
Mostly pissed.
Tried to switch to Verizon. Discovered that the only Internet service available in my area is AT&T.
The *insert favorite word here* monopolizing *insert favorite word here* !!!!
On the upside, I get plenty of time to brush my hair and cut my ever-growing fingernails.
Or read my bible.
Tra la la.
Still pissed, slightly so.

AT&T drives me crazy. They have the cheapest internet service where we live ($15/month), but sometimes I wonder if it is worth it for all the hassles we go through with them. My husbands has spent countless hours on hold with them only to have to contact them again the next month about the same “insert favorite word here” problem!
Hope you can find some free internet somewhere close to home!
Arghhh I’m sorry Sophia, I feel similar need to vent! I’m actually pissed at AT&T too because they REFUSE to unlock my Blackberry because they would prefer I use my US phone number when I’m abroad for the next few weeks…yeah right, pay $2.50 per minute to talk on the phone…NO THANKS, I’m going somewhere in San Francisco tomorrow to a random cellular store to get it unlocked for $10. Ugh.
But anyways, I find that when I don’t have internet access I’m much more productive in other means–plus sadly it’s actually the one time i can READ a book and get sucked into it without the distraction of my twitter feed or Wordpress Reader

Bitterness! AT&T screws so many people. I cringe at the thought of no internet at the start of school. Starbucks/midnight library wi-fi?? I know I nearly flipped when the internet was not set up in our temp apartment. Online class w/o the internet is kinda impossible… Yep. Hopefully that gets fixed soon!
Ugh. I had (slow) internet issues too, they suck! It’s all better now, though; good luck getting yours cleared up!
So sorry to hear that… I was so mad when AT&T did some work on our street and somehow cut down on our internet for whole 2 days. I was suspicious if they do something to my internet line when they said they are working on cable and my guess was right… they screwed up. Anyway even 2 days I went nuts. I tried to read etc, but gosh it was so hard to live without being online. Plus AT&T has really bad reception in my house. I know how mad you are… hang in there….

Can you get one of those wifi cards from Verizon or (AT&T)? You can get internet with it just about anywhere, but it’s sort of a pricey solution.
I can’t stand that cable CAN legally monopolize entire areas!! It goes against everything our capitalistic society stands for. It’s completely unacceptable and I hope that it changes.
I am so sorry for your trouble. I hate AT&T. My mom got us out of that contract once by paying more money the she could afford but that’s how much we hated it! Hang in there!

I’m really sorry – this sucks. AT&T sucks too. Settle in at Starbucks my friend, or purchase a mi-fi like my husband has… that’s my only advice.

I put my utulity bills, etc. on automatic deposit so I avoid any problems like what you had. You may want to do that too, just because it saves time and hassles.

That sucks. I remember my day a few months back without internet. I couldn’t even do anything because there was like a zillion tornado warnings. I was sooo bored.

GAH. I have AT&T phone service because my mom used to work for them and now refuses to use everything else. Even though my phone drops every one of her calls to me. Strange.

We had our electric turned off several years ago for the same reason. Never got a bill. They sent it to a PO Box. We asked them “did you ever think about sending it to…you know…the address that you are providing the electric to?” Well, no. “Did you ever think about calling our phone number?” Well, no.
They did reimburse us for the night in the hotel and the food that spoiled in the freezer.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with AT&T. That is the same reason why I dropped AT&T service all together and just switch everything to cable. Love my cable service and very happy with it. Cable is something you may want to consider if available in your area.

I’m sorry that you are having problems with the Internet. One time I had to wait two weeks forComcast. I think all cable/Internet providers kinda suck
AT&T are assholes. I’m sorry you have to deal with their crap. Time Warner seems to be even worse! Hope you get it figured out soon!
