You always need to work hard for the things that you want and to be fair, if everything came easy then it probably wouldn't feel as good once you got it. I will be in school for the next 7-8 years to get my MD/PhD and then I will still have to do a residency and a post-doc after that (another 7 or so years total) before I can actually start practicing medicine. Hard work? Yup. But worth it? Hopefully! Grilling/roasting makes everything better - even figs. I've actually never had a bad fig. I'm sorry you're having such terrible luck with produce this week!
